This manifesto is our pitch to you, the people of a newly formed local council area, who live in the proud communities of Daventry , Northampton and South Northamptonshire, which now come together to form West Northants Unitary Council – your new local Council.
As the national effort to fight Covid-19 is making a positive impact, we in West Northamptonshire must focus on playing our part whilst making plans for our area, or as the Prime Minister Boris Johnson puts it: ‘Build back better’.
Many of you will have felt the very real pain of this unimagined pandemic, but as your new local Council joins together this year, it comes at a time when local government has been on the front-line of the pandemic in your community. These times that we live in have reminded us of the kindness of others, in how people respond to each other, volunteering, helping our neighbours- there are literally thousands of examples of selflessness that have helped us get through this difficult time. This is a time for working together to improve our community and that approach has really made a difference. We can all enjoy the benefits of the new local council with that reminder of the human spirit fresh in our memories, that will lead all of our communities back to happier times.
We believe that this is time to look to a brighter future and that our combined strength can improve the lives of the people who live and work in the new local council area of West Northants. You will see in the detail of this Conservative Manifesto document that we have major opportunities to improve the very fabric of daily life here in our part of the County. These will benefit all of you.
We have a unique advantage in our geographical position that we must leverage more and we have world class industries that we must use as a springboard to realise that bright future. We are already national and international leaders in logistics, leathercraft and motorsport and we must seek to encourage more major firms to regard this as the best place to be.
The West really is the best!
This manifesto also seeks to position West Northants Council as a leader in the Green technology race and to be a local authority that creates an environment in which all decisions are taken with the carbon cost being front and centre. We will start this on day one in office, extending this vision further by inviting you to a Climate Action Now Summit, so that you too can be part in shaping a cleaner, greener Northamptonshire. We will be a ‘blue council’ with a green agenda.
To do all of this, we need the right team in place. We have an exciting group of people, from all walks of life, from across the area, ready to get started. We ask you to support your Conservative candidates and let us get cracking with the task in hand. This is just the fresh start that we have all been waiting for, and a bright future is on the horizon. Your new Council, a Conservative Council, is ready to face, with you, the times that we live in.
